THE APPLICATION SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD THIS WEEK HAS BEEN DELAYED

The liquidation application was scheduled to be heard this week but has been delayed by various attempts by other parties such as lenders and Steinhoff creditors to be involved in the hearing.

Deloitte, which was the auditor when Steinhoff’s shares collapsed, has argued that a liquidation would create “tension for the settlement process at best or sabotage it at worst”.

Steinhoff is also attempting to appeal against a decision that the liquidation case be heard in SA, even though the company is registered in the Netherlands. The company said it would go to the Constitutional Court to have that ruling set aside.

A Dutch court was due to review that country’s part of the settlement on Thursday. The 15 parties representing Dutch and European claimants and Steinhoff lenders voted in favour of the settlement, which must be approved by a Dutch court.
