Five things for you to watch this weekend

FEEL GOOD SEASON 2 NETFLIX

British comedian Mae Martin moves the action of her semiautobiographical dramedy about love and the struggles of addiction to Canada for this second season. Intimately observed with a wry sense of the absurd, it’s a heartfelt and smart look at the complexities of love and relationships in the world of post-addiction recovery that avoids preachiness and sentimentality.

LISEY’S STORY — APPLE TV

Apple TV jumps on the supposedly guaranteed sure-thing bandwagon that is Stephen King adaptations. This is a suitably eerie and starstudded mind twister about a writer’s widow who, two years after his death, is sent on a scary treasure hunt that will unearth secrets from the past of her marriage that she thought she had blocked out forever. Adapted by King himself and starring Julianne Moore, Clive Owen and Joan Allen, it’s so far a little slow but certainly strange and intriguing enough to keep you watching. New episodes are added weekly on Fridays.

PANIC — AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

A preposterous teenage chiller that almost succeeds on its B movie merits. In a small Texas town, bored and trapped teenagers make the most of their dull, oh-so-privileged middle class American ennui by concocting lethal challenges that make up a competition with the ultimate reward a pot of gold that will enable escape from the hell of small-town existence. It has the expected sex and violence that are required to keep its audience titillated but it’s all so over-thetop much of the time that it can’t escape descending into parody.

HUMAN: THE WORLD WITHIN — NETFLIX

This PBS produced series does an excellent and informative job of showing how almost everything we do, feel and dream in our everyday lives is connected to something that’s going on in the wondrous machine that is our body. In a moment where health and sanity have been brought into sharp focus by the Covid-19 pandemic, we can all do with a thorough informative course to help us get to grips with the science of what exactly is going on in there.

BETTY SEASON 2 — SHOWMAX

The curious, independent and creative crew of young, female New York skaters venture ever forward into new adventures and encounters with the many eccentric situations and characters who populate the bustling streets of the Big Apple. It’s all very stylish, cool and easy to watch, thanks to the dedication of its cast and its willingness to often do no more than just let them hang, skate and see what happens next. New episodes are added weekly on Mondays from June 14.
